Going on Vacation?

Now more than ever, you may need a getaway to relax and take your mind off things. Need some time to yourself? Want to enjoy some special time with your family? Make it happen with a much-deserved vacation!

Many Cancer Fighters® members say vacations are vital to their physical and mental well-being.

If you are in treatment or recovery, you may have to consider special needs when traveling. Here are some great tips from our members:
  • Talk to your doctor before going.
  • Set realistic expectations for yourself— don't plan too many (or too strenuous) activities, and build in time to rest during the day.
  • If you are flying, read the travel and medication guidelines from the Transportation Services Administration.
  • Bring your medications—more than you expect to need.
  • Never pack your medications—bring them in your carry-on to avoid being separated from them.
  • Do not be afraid to ask for help.
  • Rent wheelchairs or scooters if necessary.
Remember to pack:
  • Medications
  • Copies of current prescriptions
  • Emergency phone numbers for your health care providers
  • Sun hat and sunscreen
  • Hand sanitizer
  • A sweater or jacket for chilly nights
  • Refillable water bottles
  • Extra contact lenses, if you wear them
